My background spans delivery, live operations, enterprise applications, integration, architecture, transformation and vendor governance. That combination matters: architecture is useful only when it can survive procurement, delivery, operations and the realities of the organisation using it.

How I think about architecture

I am strongly influenced by systems thinking. The brief is one view of the system, not the system itself. I try to understand the purpose, the people affected, the interactions that create the current behaviour and the conditions that keep a problem recurring. Sometimes the right answer is not to optimise a component, but to change the arrangement around it.

Understand the whole before optimising the parts — and design with the people who must live with the result in mind.
