Service-oriented thinking.
Practically applied.

I start with the people living with the decision and the wider system around it — not just the technology in front of us. Then I apply independent, systems-level judgement to the architecture, the vendor proposal, or the design: what is sound, what is missing, how the parts interact, and what today's choice creates tomorrow — before you sign.

GM Founded and led by George Memenios — 28+ years in enterprise architecture & delivery

Start

People arrive with a situation, not a service name. Understand the people, purpose and wider system before naming the intervention.

Where are you right now?

Pick the sentence closest to your situation. Each one leads to what I would actually examine first — before assuming the answer is a new system, supplier or project.

Services

Two starting points cover most first conversations. The rest follow naturally once we've worked together.

Where to start

Every service below shares the same starting point: understanding what you're actually deciding, who lives with the result, and how the surrounding parts influence one another — before anything technical gets assessed.

Recommended · Corporate & international

Technology decision review

I start by understanding what you're actually deciding and who carries the consequences — then test the options, assumptions, interactions, costs and dependencies before the money moves.

→ Decision paper + conditions · 2–3 weeks
Recommended · Greek business owners

Vendor & proposal review

I read the proposal the way you'd want someone who understands both business and systems to read it: what's missing, what's assumed, and what it will really cost you later.

→ Gap list + questions to ask · 1–2 weeks
Assurance

Architecture & design review

Before I check whether a design is technically sound, I check whether it was designed for your business at all. Then I look beyond the components to the interactions between people, process, information and technology — because that is where many failures emerge.

→ Written opinion + findings · 2–4 weeks
Roadmap

Applications & integration roadmap

What your teams actually struggle with, set against how applications, integrations, ownership and processes interact — then a sequence for what to keep, modernise, consolidate or retire.

→ Portfolio view + sequence · 3–6 weeks
AI

AI readiness & governance

Where AI would genuinely help the people doing the work — not the use case a vendor is selling. Then the data, oversight and controls to make it safe to use.

→ Use-case list + controls + pilot plan · 3–4 weeks
Ongoing

Fractional advisor

Unhurried, ongoing access to someone who already understands your business — for the decisions that don't wait for a formal project.

→ 1–2 days per month · rolling

Method

The "so" of soapplied: understand the whole situation first — people, purpose, constraints and interactions. Design follows; it doesn't lead.

How an engagement runs

Three stages, whether the client is a European agency or a company with fourteen people. The approach is deliberately systemic: understand the whole, imagine what better could look like, then make the change practical.

The systems thinking behind the approach →
01Listen · Question · Understand

What are we actually deciding?

Before anything technical, I listen to the people who experience the situation from different sides: what they need, what constrains them, and what happens if the decision is wrong. The brief is one view of the system, not the system itself.

02Think · Design

What would better look like?

I look at the situation as a whole, then ask what we would design if we were not trapped by the current arrangement. Sometimes the best answer is not to solve the stated problem more efficiently, but to remove the conditions that keep producing it. Options are then brought back to what is feasible.

03Apply · Learn

What do you do with it?

A short written recommendation you can circulate, defend and act on. Where useful, I stay close through approval, procurement or delivery — because a design only proves itself when it meets the rest of the organisation and begins to change the system.

Answers

Answer first, in 40–70 words. Over time this will grow into a practical library on decisions, architecture, AI and systems thinking.

Questions I get asked, answered

About sixty of these at launch, in English and Greek, dated and kept current. Some will answer immediate technology questions; others will explore how to see the system behind the problem.

Should we replace or modernise our ERP?

Replace when the business model has changed and the system blocks it. Modernise when the pain is in processes, integrations and reporting rather than in core function. Replacement usually costs several times the licence figure. Establish which of your problems the new system genuinely solves before you compare products.

soapplied is one person, on purpose. Named clients only with written permission.

George Memenios

Founder and principal advisor at soapplied. Twenty-eight years across delivery, operations and architecture: a European medicines regulator, a medical technology group's European operations, Greece's largest gaming and retail operator, a national internet and telephony provider, a Japanese imaging manufacturer's European IT, insurance advisory, and public-sector digitalisation. My approach is strongly influenced by systems thinking: understand the whole before optimising the parts, and design with the people who must live with the result in mind.
